4-Day Marrakech Desert Tour
We start and end in Marrakech, giving you a full impression of this area of Morocco with its mountains, gorges, valleys, kasbahs, rivers, oases, sand dunes, and the hospitality of the people in the southern region.
Day 1: Marrakech - Ait Benhaddou - Dades Gorge
We will meet you in Marrakech and drive to Ouarzazate through the dramatic pass of Tizi-N-Tichka (2260m), in the High Atlas Mountains, enjoying the beautiful landscape on the winding road through Berber villages. We arrive at the famous Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou, the largest Kasbah in Morocco, a UNESCO World Heritage site that was home to many members of the Glaoui family. We will have lunch at the Kasbah and continue to Dades Gorges via Ouarzazate, the "Hollywood of Africa", and drive along the route of the thousand Kasbahs with its fascinating sand castles and pass through Kalaat M'gouna, the City of Roses, known for its annual festival during the Harvest of Roses in May,
We continue to our hotel in the heart of the Dades Gorges.
Day 2: Dades Gorges - Todra Gorges - Erfoud - Merzouga.
After breakfast at the hotel, we will return to the valley to see the rock formations in the shape of monkey fingers and the still-standing Kasbah of the 19th century, Ait Yul. We leave the Dades Valley towards Tinghir and the Todra Valley, enjoying the panoramic views of the old Berber villages with adobe houses overlooking the valley. Upon arrival at the Todra Gorges, we will walk under the 300 m high red cliff, where many rock climbers come to enjoy their favorite sport. We continue our journey to Erfoud and Rissani. Then we leave for the village of Merzouga (Erg Chebbi),
Accommodation in a traditional kasbah.
Day 3: Dunes Erg Chebbi - Khamlia - Rissani - Merzouga
After breakfast, you will have time to enjoy the Sahara of Erg Chebbi, the desert with highest dunes in the world. We depart for Rissani, called old Sijilmassa, the sourcing center of ancient caravans from the Sahara and visit the old and traditional market. You will have a lunch of Madfouna (Berber pizza), the local specialty. In Merzouga, you will take your camel caravan to watch the sunset in the dunes (about an hour and a half by camel). Spend the night in a nomadic tent in the Sahara to enjoy the silence of the desert sky filled with stars.
Dinner and overnight in a private traditional nomad tent.
Day 4: Merzouga - Rissani - Tazarine - Ouarzazate - Marrakech
We wake up early to see the brilliant colors and shadows of the dunes that occur at sunrise before coming back to the kasbah by camel for breakfast.
